My Beauty Journey: The Story That Started It All

When I think back to the start of my beauty journey, I picture 9th-grade me. Bare face, box braids, hoop earrings, swooped edges, and one thing I never left home without: lip gloss.

Makeup felt like a whole different world—heavy foundation, complicated steps, and way too much to figure out. I honestly hated it. But lip gloss was different.

That combo made me feel like I looked 20 times prettier. That shine on my lips felt effortless. It became the spark that launched my beauty journey and my first steps toward an easy, beginner-friendly makeup routine that boosted my confidence.

The First Step

At the same time, I started getting curious about entrepreneurship. Scrolling through Instagram, I’d see aesthetic collages from small businesses and feel this pull toward creating something of my own.

At first, I considered selling lashes, because that’s what everyone else seemed to be doing. But the truth was, I never wore lashes. They didn’t feel authentic to me. That’s when I realized: my business had to align with my real beauty journey.

Lip gloss was my first love in beauty, the perfect go-to makeup product for beginners. It was more than just shine; something so simple could make me feel so put-together everywhere that I went. Lip gloss became the natural first step in building BTYXCosmetics, and it still represents the heart of what we do today.

As my beauty journey evolved, so did BTYXCosmetics. What began with gloss expanded into lip oils and lip scrubs, each created with intention and care. Together with my sister Madlyn, whose creativity helped shape the brand, we turned a spark into something real.

Why Our Beauty Journeys Matter

For me, it all started with that 9th-grade version of myself: bare face, Air Forces on, glossy lips. That small boost of confidence turned into a passion I wanted to share. My hope is that every girl who wears BTYXCosmetics can feel the thrill I felt back in 9th grade: a natural confidence that starts with something as simple as gloss.
